Playa Las Tortugas

Between the towns of San Blas and Chacala is a heavenly gold beach called Playa Las Tortugas.  Named after the endangered sea turtles that nest on this beach and whose eggs and hatchlings are sheltered in a turtle farm until released into the ocean, this pristine beach extends across 11 miles (18 kilometers) of soft golden sand, lined by tall coconut palms of an active coconut plantation. Its secluded location maintains the peace and quiet, and has helped keep its secret as a great surfing and boogie boarding spot containing long, strong waves.  Playa Las Tortugas beach is about a 1.5-hour drive northwest of Bahia Jaltemba Bay through the countryside and is well worth the drive.
